Death of a retired Police Officer : Sgt 559 Joseph Michael Wood

It is with regret that we have to advise colleagues of the death of a retired Police Officer :  Sgt 559 Joseph Michael Wood who died on 9th May 2017 aged 76 years.
Michael joined Durham Constabulary on 15th February 1960 and from HQ Training his first posting was to beat duty at Durham City.  In December 1962 he joined CID and worked in NECRO.  Remaining within the same department Michael undertook INDENTIKIT roles until November 1970 when he was seconded to No 2 RCIO.  In December 1972 he moved into Fraud Squad before being promoted to Sergeant in September 1980 when he was posted to HQ CID Administration.
From December 1982 he returned to Fraud Squad before moving into the HOLMES Unit in March 1987.  He retired from HOLMES on 15th January 1991.
Michael leaves a widow, Audrey, who has also served with Durham Constabulary.
Funeral service is to be held at 1pm on Thursday 25th May 2017 at the Methodist Church, High Street, Carrville.  The service is not private and friends and former colleagues are welcome meet at church.  The will be family flowers only and any donations in lieu of flowers are requested for Guide Dogs UK please.  A collection plate will be available in church.
