Death of a retired Police Officer: DC 1349 James (Jim) Edward Watson McQueen

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of retired Police Officer, DC 1349 James (Jim) Edward Watson McQueen of Lesbury, Alnwick, Northumberland, who died at The Grange Nursing Home, Warkworth, Northumberland on Saturday 3rd June 2023, aged 85 years.

Jim joined Durham County Constabulary in 1961 and served at Consett, detached beat at Ebchester. He then went onto the Motorcycle Section at Newton Aycliffe and then onto Traffic Patrols (cars). A move to Serious Incident Squad (SIS) followed before a transfer to Special Branch. Jim received his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, prior to his retirement in September 1984.

He is survived by wife, Elizabeth and daughter Lindsay.

A funeral service is to be held at 2.30pm Tuesday 4 th July 2023 at St Mary the Virgin Church, Lesbury, Northumberland.

The service is not private.

Death of a retired Police Officer : Inspector Thomas Lewis COOPER

It is with regret that we have to inform you of the death of a retired Police Officer : Inspector Thomas Lewis COOPER who died in the QE Hospital Gateshead on 30th may 2023 aged 83 after a long illness.

Tom served in Durham Constabulary for over 30 years and following service at Chester-le-Street, Durham and Barnard Castle was a D Sgt on the Crime Support Unit.  He was promoted to Uniform Inspector and posted to Bishop Auckland / Crook from where he retired.

He is survived by his wife Renne and one son Terry from a previous marriage.

The funeral will take place at Birtley Crematorium at noon on Friday 9th June.  

Family flowers only and any donations in lieu to the North East Air Ambulance.

Following the service at the Crematorium the family are having a private gathering.
