Death of a retired Police Officer : Inspector 435 Ian Thew

It is with regret that we have to announce the death of a retired Police Officer : Inspector 435 Ian Thew, who died on the 18th June 2020, aged 78 years .
Ian served Durham Constabulary at Consett in the years prior to his retirement on 30th August 2001.
Ian will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
A private family Funeral will take place due to the current restrictions.
Our thoughts are with Valerie Ian’s wife and all the family at this sad time.

Information needed

Qatar Officers trained at Durham in the 80's
Russ Robson is presently working in Qatar on a security project in relation to the 2022 World Cup.
Russ is attending a meeting in Qatar  this week with a person who's father was a Qatar police officer who was trained at Durham in the 1980's.

Det Sgt Dennis Scaife   (d.o.b. 25/08/1925)
Andy Scaife is looking for any history or photos of his Dad – Dennis Scaife
Dennis was stationed at Spennymoor CID for many years as a DC, then Aykley Heads on fraud squad as a DS followed by light duties post illness, as chemist shops inspector, still holding the rank of DS.
Dennis retired late 1970s (mid 77?) and deceased Good Friday 1986.

Death of a retired Police Officer : Sgt 414 Stephen Bell

It is with regret that we have to announce the death of a retired Police Officer : Sgt 414 Stephen Bell who died peacefully at home on the 29th May, aged 68 years.
Stephen  served with Durham Constabulary for 32 years and was a Sergeant in Newton Aycliffe before his retirement on 30th May 2007.
Stephen is survived by his wife Linda, Martin, Alex, Matthew & their families
A private family funeral will take place due to the current restrictions on 9th June in Gainford Cemetery at 12:30pm.

A Memorial will be arranged at a later date to celebrate Stephens life.
Our thoughts are with Linda and all the family at this sad time.

Death of a retired Police Officer : Sgt 1531 Stewart McDade

It is with regret that we have to announce the death of a retired Police Officer : Sgt 1531 Stewart McDade who died on 30th May aged 73 years.
Stewart served in Murton, Darlington and Barnard Castle until his retirement on 5th August 1994.
The funeral service will be a private service held at Durham Crematorium on Thursday 11th June for family members only due to the current restrictions in place.
Our thoughts are with Stewart’s wife Elaine and all the family at this sad time.
Donations in lieu of flowers have been requested to East Durham Heritage and Lifeboat Centre, Seaham.

Death of a retired Police Officer : DC 23 Katherine Beryl Sparrow (Callander).

It is with great regret that we have to announce the death of a retired Police Officer :  DC 23 Katherine Beryl Sparrow (Callander).
Katherine sadly passed away at St Cuthbert’s Hospice on the 23rd May after a 7 year battle with cancer.
Katherine served Durham Constabulary for many years starting her career on the beat in Durham and later worked in Safeguarding before her retirement in July 2013.
A graveside service will take place at Earsdon Village Cemetery in Whitley Bay on Friday 5th June at 11am.
Due to current restrictions the graveside service is limited to family but others are welcome to attend and pay their respects as long as current distancing restrictions are met nearby.
For those attending please park in the Cannon Inn Pub carpark, the Cemetery is opposite then located behind St Albans Church.
Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with the family at this sad time.
Donations in lieu of flowers have been requested to Maggie’s Newcastle.
