Death of a retired Police Officer : PC Peter Norman Willis

It is with regret that we have to announce the death of a retired Police Officer  : PC Peter Norman Willis, who died on the 20th July 2021 aged 83 years.

Peter Norman Willis joined Durham Constabulary as a cadet and served for many years at Quarrington Hill, Lanchester and Meadowfield before his retirement in the mid-1980s.
Peter combined his policing job with football refereeing. Peter began officiating in the Football League in 1972, spent 18 years as the national president of the Referees’ Association and refereed the 1985 FA Cup Final at Wembley.
Peter was the much loved father to Susan and Peter. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
A funeral will take place on 5th August 2021, 13:30 at Wear Valley Crematorium. All are welcome.
Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.

Hardwick Camp Cadet Reunion

This is for the information of any ex Police cadets who were at Hardwick Camp, Sedgefieldduring the 60's. The message is from George Storey who is organizing the reunion : 

I have just spoken with Dawn the Secretary of the Sedgefield Cricket Club who informs me that we are safe to go ahead with the reunion.
Saturday 11th September 2021 at 7pm

If you worked as a Police Cadet, Junior Fireman, Cadet Instructor or member of staff at the Police Cadet Training School at Hardwick Camp, Sedgefield in the 1960’s then this reunion is for you!
1970 marked the last intake of cadets at Hardwick Camp ,last year marked the 50th Anniversary and we thought it was a good time to have another reunion following our last successful event in 2016.
We would like to invite ALL who attended the camp during its tenure from the early 1960’s until its closure. Please come along, there will be someone you remember! Large name labels will be available on the night!
We have a new venue this time, Sedgefield Cricket Club, TS21 2BY. The location of the venue will provide the opportunity for a nostalgic visit to where you spent your teenage years!
A buffet will be provided together with an audio-visual show of pictures from your life at Hardwick Camp along with other memorabilia.
Tickets are £10.00 each and are limited to ex cadet, junior firemen, instructors and staff simply due to the restriction on numbers for the venue. Order soon to avoid disappointment.

Death of a retired Police Officer : Sgt 1879 David Steel

It is with regret that we have to announce the death of a retired Police Officer : Sgt 1879 David Steel, who died on the 17th July 2021 aged 70 years.
David joined Durham Constabulary in 1970 and served at Hartlepool, Darlington and Bishop Auckland. David also was a Sergeant at Barnard Castle from January 2000 until his retirement on 31st January 2002.
David was the much-loved husband of Valerie, father to Sarah and Mark and grandfather to Poppy and Penelope.
He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
A funeral will take place on Wednesday 4th August 2021, 10:00 at All Saints Church, Ravensdale Rd, Blackwell, Darlington.
People are invited to attend, social distancing and face masks are requested.
Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.
Donations in lieu of flowers have been requested to St Teresa’s Hospice, Darlington.

Death of a retired Police Officer : Chief Insp. John “Jack” Johnson (Ex Durham)

It is with regret that we have to announce the death of a retired Police Officer : Chief Insp. John “Jack” Johnson, who died on the 3rd July 2021, aged 83 years.

Jack initially joined Durham Constabulary and served at West Hartlepool, Bishop Auckland, Bowburn and Newby Wiske for many years until he  transferred to Northumbria Police during the amalgamation of 1974.
He continued to serve in Northumbria until his retirement as a Chief Inspector in 1993.
Jack was the much loved husband of Eunice, father to Susan, Karen, Richard and Michael and grandfather to six grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
A funeral service will take place on the 19th July 2021, 11:30hrs at St Roberts Church Morpeth, following the service there will be a private cremation.
Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.
Donations in lieu of flowers have been requested to the Stroke Association.
