Death of a retired Police Officer: Sgt 408 Henry (Harry) Napier

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of a retired Police Officer: Sgt 408 Henry (Harry) Napier of Seaham (formerly Horden), who died in Sunderland Hospital on Friday 6th January 2023, aged 84 years.

Harry joined Durham County Constabulary in 1964.  After his initial training, he served at Seaham, Bishop Auckland, Peterlee and Durham, including various Section Offices before retiring in 1991.

Harry is survived by wife Brenda, sons Terry and Andrew, and granddaughter Daisy.

A funeral service will take place at 1.00pm Tuesday 7th February 2023 at Sunderland Crematorium, Chester Road, Sunderland SR4 7RS.

Family flowers only; donations in lieu to the RNLI or to the George Elmy (Lifeboat) Restoration Fund.

Death of a retired Police Officer: DC 1303 John Chesney (Ches) Brighouse

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of a retired Police Officer: DC 1303 John Chesney (Ches) Brighouse of Spennymoor, who died in Darlington Memorial Hospital on Thursday 19th January 2023, aged 85 years.

Ches joined Durham County Constabulary in April 1961.  After his initial training, he was posted to West Hartlepool, Ferryhill, Stockton CID, Durham City CID, Spennymoor CID, finishing his service in uniform at Durham City, retiring in 1986.

He was a long-standing member of Durham NARPO, serving on the committee for many years and was recently made a NARPO Life Member.

Ches is survived by wife Maureen, son-in-law Tony and granddaughter Katy; sadly, their daughter Lesley died in June 2020.

Ches’s funeral is to be a private cremation.
