Death of Police Widow: Marjorie Johnson (nee Paxton)

It is with regret that we inform you of the death of Marjorie Johnson, who died peacefully on 20th November 2021, aged 97 years. Marjorie was the wife of the late Sgt 184 Fred Johnson.

She is survived by sons, Ian, Brian and Neil and their families.
Prior to her marriage in April 1950, Marjorie worked as a clerk in the Magistrates Clerk’s Office at Bishop Auckland.
A Private Interment for Marjorie took place prior to a Service of  Thanksgiving in Elvet Methodist Church on 3rd December 2021.
Donations in lieu of flowers were directed to North Road Methodist Church.

Death of a retired Police Officer’s Wife: Ann Watson

It is with regret that we inform you of the death of Ann Watson, who died on 27th November 2021, aged 83 years.

Ann is survived by husband Frank Watson, a retired Superintendent (ex Durham and Cleveland), sons Frank, Carl, Gary and Andrew and seven grandchildren.
Ann’s funeral service was held at Sunderland Crematorium at 11am on 15th December 2021.

Death of Police Widow : Mrs Sandra Margaret Smith

It is with regret that we inform you of the death of Sandra Margaret Smith, who died peacefully in Willow Green Care Home on 4th January 2022, aged 77 years. Sandra is the widow of the late PC 1383 Eric Smith, who died in 2001, aged
58 years.
Sandra was dear partner to Ken and survived by her son Jon, his wife Tracy, granddaughters Lucy and Phoebe and also by her sisters Susan and Gloria.
A funeral service will be held at 10.00am Friday 28th January 2022 at the West Cemetery Chapel, Darlington Crematorium, Carmel Road North, Darlington DL3 8RY.
Family flowers only, donations in lieu to the Dogs Trust, Sadberge.

Death of a retired Police Officer : Sgt 653 Colin Dixon

It is with regret that we inform you of the death of a retired Police Officer : Sgt 653 Colin Dixon, who died in North Durham Hospital on 5th January 2022, aged 84 years.

Colin joined Durham County Constabulary in January 1959 and served most of his police career at Chester-le-Street, with occasional spells at Stanley; he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1974 and retired in November 1985.
Colin is survived by wife Mary, son Phillip (retired Northumbria Police Officer) and grandson Will; he was also stepfather to Stephen, Tammy and grandson Anthony.
A funeral service will be held at 12.30pm Thursday 27th January 2022 at Mountsett Crematorium, Ewehurst Road, Dipton, Stanley DH9 9JP.
Following the funeral family and friends are invited to meet at Pelton Community Centre, Front Street, Chester-le-Street DH2 1DE.

Death of Police Widow : Dorothy Cowey

It is with regret that we inform you of the death of Dorothy Cowey, who died in Cramlington hospital on 26th December 2021, aged 79 years. Dorothy was the wife of the late PC 1551 Barrie Cowey, who died 6th September 2020.
Dorothy is survived by sons, Graham and wife Amanda, Neil and wife Sharon and daughters, Tracey and partner Harry, Cathryn and wife Debbie, grandsons, Daniel and wife Lottie, Joseph and wife Holly and Joseph and great granddaughter Morgan.
A funeral service will be held at 11.30am Monday 17th January 2022 at Blackhall Methodist Chapel, Middle Street, Blackhall Colliery, TS27 4ED.

Death of a retired Police Officer : DC 1342 Ian White

 It is with regret that we inform you of the death of a retired Police Officer :  DC 1342 Ian White, who died at home on 24th December 2021, aged 80 years.

Ian joined Durham County Constabulary in 1967 and retired in 1995.
Ian is survived by wife Sheila, daughter Michelle, sons Christopher and Philip and grandchildren Tom, Rhys, Daniel, William, Abbi, Sophie and Charlie.

A funeral service will be held at 1.30pm Monday 10th January 2022 at All Saints Church, Ravensdale Road, Blackwell, Darlington DL3 8DT.
Following the funeral family and friends are invited to meet at Darlington Cricket Club, South Terrace, Feethams, Darlington DL1 5JD.

Death of Police Widow: Mary Isabella Forrester (nee Jeffery)

It is with regret that we inform you of the death of Mary Isabella Forrester, who died in University Hospital Durham on 5th November 2021, aged 87 years. She was the wife of the late Superintendent 253 William (Bill) Thomas Forrester, who died in 2010, aged 75 years.
Mary was a policewoman in Durham County Constabulary and worked in Stockton, where she rode a Police motor scooter; she was also stationed at Durham City. She resigned from the Force after her marriage, due to the personal restrictions in place at that time, when it was not acceptable for a serving Policewoman to raise a family.
Mary is survived by brother Fred, daughters Lynn Bushell and partner Peter, and Jill McArthur and husband Angus, and grandchildren Hannah, Hamish and Isobel.
A funeral service for Mary took place on at Durham Crematorium on 18th November 2021.

Durham NARPO : AGM Cancelled

 The AGM of the Durham Branch of NARPO, scheduled for Monday 10th January 2022 has had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Committee are looking at alternative dates and will advise when a suitable venue /date are confirmed
