Using 112 on Mobile Phones in an emergency

The GSM specifications require that this will work for any emergency number known to the handset. When an emergency number is dialled, the handset recognises it as such and initiates an emergency call without transmitting the number dialled to the mobile network.
The info in this video about 112 is correct, but why confuse people when the number they know and love, 999, works in exactly the same way i.e. it uses any network available?

Have you tried calling 999 from outside the UK ?
