Death of retired Police Officer : DC 923 George William Storey

It is with regret that we announce the death of retired Police Officer : DC 923 George William Storey, who died at home in Darlington on the 13^th May 2021, aged 85 years.

George joined Durham County Constabulary on the 5^th March 1956 and retired on the 5^th March 1985.

George was a Police Cadet with Durham prior to 2-years National Service in Egypt. He then joined the regular force as a Police Constable and following initial training at Plawsworth, he was
stationed at Darlington and Newton Aycliffe.
George is survived by his sister Margaret, daughters Caroline and Christine, son-in-law Derek, daughter-in-law Glenda, 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by wife Ruth (2016) and son Charles (2011).
A funeral service was held at Darlington Golf Club on Thursday 27^th May 2021, where he had been a past Captain(1978) and President since 2007.  He also wrote a book on the history of the golf club.
