Death of Retired Police Officer: PC 818 David Duncan

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of retired Police Officer, Police Constable 818 David Duncan, who died suddenly at the family’s static caravan at Eyemouth, Berwickshire, Scotland on Sunday 31st May 2026, aged 72 years.

Dave joined Durham Constabulary in July 1975, his first posting was to Barnard Castle and then to Darlington.  He then transferred to Traffic Patrols (South), mainly working the Darlington area.  Towards the end of his service, he became a Crime Prevention Officer.

He retired from the force on 30th July 2005 and then rejoined the force, under the 30+ scheme, working in the South Resourcing Unit, retiring after a period of 2 years.

He received a Certificate of Commendations, dated 7th June 2007 for:

a)   For excellent teamwork which was instrumental in affecting the conviction of several defendants on charges of burglary, theft, handling stolen goods and TWOC (Chief Constable 1986), and

b)   For excellent work resulting in the arrest and conviction of a violent man on charges of reckless driving, assault on police, failing to a laboratory specimen, failing to stop for an officer and speeding (Chief Constable 1979)

He also received a certificate from the Divisional Commander of Darlington, dated 9 July 2003, for recognition of excellent work for his commitment and professionalism in establishing the role of co-ordinator and setting up the appropriate systems and procedures to assist the process.

Dave is survived by his wife Karen, sons Allan & Andrew, 3 granddaughters and 2 grandsons, the latest grandson being born on 12th June 2026.

A funeral service is to be held at 1.00pm Wednesday 1st July 2026 at Darlington Crematorium, Carmel Road North, Darlington DL3 8RY

Family flowers only, donations in lieu to the Great North Air Ambulance.

After the funeral, friends are invited to join the family at Darlington Cricket Club, South Terrace, Darlington DL1 5JD
