Death of a retired Police Officer : Chief Superintendent 270 Derek Sayers

It is with regret that we have to announce the death of a retired Police Officer : Chief Superintendent 270 Derek Sayers, who died on the 27th June 2017. He was aged 87 years.
He does not leave a widow but leaves two sons.
Mr Sayers retired on the 22nd February 1989.
The funeral service will be not be private, however details have not been finalised yet.
The family will circulate the funeral details in the Northern Echo around the 19th or 20th July.

Remember him well. He was serving as sergeant at Stanhope when I was the constable at Tow Law and often at the office on the duty pony post by 250cc Royal Enfield to and from Consett - and then when HQ sent me out in a mini-mokeinstead of the bike, cap and snug Winter Velcro coat. Bees knees calling at Stanhope then. He was helpful and interested.
